New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced plans to open the park in the Bronx and San Fran., with the opening expected to take place in late spring or early summer.
“This is a new chapter in our immigration policy and we will work tirelessly to protect the safety and security of all of our citizens and visitors to our nation, including those fleeing violence and persecution,” De Blasio said in a statement.
There will also be more than 2,000 beds available in the park to receive refugees who need to be housed and cared for, he added.
