Fiery funeral home fires in funeral home blaze
A funeral home in northwest Florida that collapsed last week is facing fire-fighting charges and is seeking to move out of its former space in the city of West Palm Beach.
A news release from the West Palm Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Tuesday that the former firehouse was destroyed on Oct. 24 and that it was the first of four fire deaths at the building.
The fire department said the building was used as a funeral home.
The sheriff’s office did not identify the family that owns the building, but said in the release that the family did not respond to an inquiry by police.
The West Palm Fire Department said that fire crews and a bomb squad were called to the firehouse at about 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
The fire was quickly extinguished and the building is currently being repaired.
